DIVORCE

From uncontested and straightforward to contentious and complex, it helps to have an experienced attorney on your side in a Virginia divorce case. Rebecca frequently works with clients to negotiate and settle all issues in their divorce, including property division (equitable distribution), child custody and visitation, spousal support, and child support, and prepares property settlement agreements (separation agreements) reflecting the terms of settlement. However, indivorce cases that cannot be resolved through settlement or mediation, Rebecca is always prepared to advocate effectively and persuasively for her clients' best outcomes in court. Rebeccahas significant experience with divorces involving division of military, civilian, and private retirement, property and business valuation, and issues involving marital waste and dissolution of assets. She also works with clients who may need to modify or enforce terms of their separation agreement or divorce order.

CHILD CUSTODY & VISITATION

The "best interests of the child" is the legal standard in Virginia by which all child custody and visitation cases are assessed. Rebecca works with clients in child custody and visitation cases, whether as part of a divorce or a stand-alone situation, to advocate vigorously for their child(ren)'s best interests. Rebecca recognizes that custody and visitation cases can be extremely contentious when parents do not see eye-to-eye, but her philosophy is first and foremost to "do no harm." Rebecca also works with clients to modify or enforce custody and visitation orders when appropriate.

SPOUSAL SUPPORT & CHILD SUPPORT

Spousal support (or alimony) in Virginia can leave many people scratching their heads. What is the purpose of spousal support? Who qualifies for spousal support? What factors does the Court consider when determining how much one spouse pays to the other and for how long? And similarly, child support is often more nuanced than a parent may initially think. Rebecca frequently represents clients in spousal support and child support matters, including modification, termination, and enforcement cases, and she strives to demystify the process along the way.
